When most people see a screen enclosure, they don’t realize the strength and durability these structures possess. Hurricane Shutters Can Protect Your Home

The 2013 hurricane season came and went without a single major storm rocking the coast of Florida. In fact, as of November 30, the official end of the season, there had only been 13 storms which was the lowest total since 1982. Of those 13, only two formed into actual hurricanes. The rest were so weak they only qualified as tropical storms. On average there are six legitimate hurricanes every year with three of them qualifying as major storms reaching category 3 or higher. This year, Hurricanes Ingrid and Humberto only reached category 1, the lowest classification for storms. Experts attribute the slow season to a variety of factors including dry air and a cold water front moving in from the eastern Atlantic Ocean into the Caribbean.

Despite the weak hurricane season, it still pays to be prepared for anything Mother Nature could throw our way. For the people of West Palm Beach, this means having the right protection over your windows. Hurricane shutters are one of the most popular ways people protect their homes from storms as they are easy to install and work well keeping out the elements. Screen Builders is known for their high quality pool screen enclosures, but they are also an expert manufacturer of hurricane shutters with a reputation for effectiveness and durability. There are a variety of features which help make the hurricane shutters at Screen Builders some of the best around. Corrosion resistant screws help protect against rust and wear which can compromise the structural integrity of the shutters while durable alloy aluminum panels keep the elements at bay.

While nothing can be classified as “hurricane proof,” the accordion hurricane shutters made by Screen Builders Inc. are made from only the highest quality materials and they undergo rigorous tests to ensure they are ready to help protect your home the from high winds, heavy rains and flying debris that comes with a large storm. When it comes to hurricane preparedness, accordion storm shutters should be at the top of everyone’s list right next to flashlights, drinking water and batteries.  Contact the pool and patio screen experts in West Palm Beach today and find out how they can help protect your home from a hurricane.

Screen Builders Inc. specializes in:

  • Pool Screen Enclosures
  • Sunrooms
  • Patio Screen Rooms

Hurricane Season is Still in Full Swing

Hurricane season is almost over. Thus far, South Florida has been fortunate with a quiet storm season. But if you haven’t taken the proper steps to protect your home and screen enclosures from a hurricane or tropical storm, you’re playing with fire. Don’t wait until next hurricane season to protect your property. It’s never too early or too late to do it now.

Florida has been extremely lucky this year. In a normal hurricane season, the Atlantic Ocean usually has nine named storms by October 4and five hurricanes by October 7. This year, only two storms have reached hurricane level. However, neither posed a major threat to Florida. It’s the first time since 1994, a hurricane season has been this inactive.  It’s easy to get complacent. But all it takes is one storm to cause damage and havoc.

The last major storm to affect South Florida was Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Although Wilma had reached a peak of Category 5 and was the second most destructive storm of the year, it significantly weakened into a Category 2 by the time it reached Florida. But that didn’t stop Wilma from causing significant damage and power outages throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties.  Homes with screen enclosures experienced structural damage due to inadequate bracing on the roof frame. More damage resulted from torn screens caused by debris clogging the mesh holes.

The professionals at Screen Builders can make sure your screen enclosures and home are properly secured and prepared when the next storm arrives.  You’ll get a thorough evaluation of your screen enclosure to test its structural integrity. Depending on your evaluation, the following improvements can be made to your screen enclosures to give you greater peace of mind.

  • Reinforced wind bracing
  • Corrosion-resistant screws
  • Removable panels
  • Finer thread mesh screen panels

When it comes to installing and protecting your screen enclosures for your pool or patio, fences, sunrooms, remote controlled electric roll-up screens, and storm shutters, trust the business that pioneered the industry—Screen Builders.  Located in West Palm Beach and serving all of South Florida, Screen Builders will make sure your enclosures are built to last through even the toughest storm conditions.
